From Dale B. Adamson,
Sandan
just wanted to remind everyone the importance of squats. Most students
think that we perform squats in order to strengthen the hip flexor muscles
and the knee extender muscles ( kicking muscles). This is mostly true,
however performing full squats forces the joints to move through their
full range of motion and this strengthens the ligaments ( those fiberous
bands that connect bone to bone). Strengthen the ligaments prevents
injury. I remember when Hanshi Scaglione spoke to after class in Merritt
Island, he said " I would rather see you do one correct squat than
10 incorrect squats". Remember to keep your back straight and do
full range of motion. I am not advocate of using added weights while
doing squats, I think using your own weight and increasing the number
of repetitions is safer and more beneficial. Follow the squats with
a kicking routine.
