Kyoshi's Technique of the Week

Win First, Fight Later

An excerpt in part from chapter 11 of "Hagakure, The Book of the Samurai" states; "The phrase, 'Win first, fight later,' can be summed up in two words, 'Win beforehand'. The resourcefulness in times of peace is the military preparation for times of war".
While the Hagakure was written at a time far removed from the world we live in, the message was simple and true to this day. Our training on the deck must be hard, focused (on proper technique) and with full kime. This is so because in the event a situation arises outside the dojo, your training and preparation on the deck will be your resource. It will be your "win beforehand".
